Honourable Dabo Adams from Okrika Constituency has been elected new speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]is election came following the resignation of the former speaker Ikunyi Owaji-Ubani barely two hours after the state’s 2016 budget was passed into law.

TVC NEWS Correspondent reports that the former speaker said his resignation was based on personal reasons.

‎He however expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him during his time as speaker of the‎ eight Assembly.

‎‎‎The election was conducted by the House after members elected Victor Ihuwo representing Port Harcourt constituency 3 as interim speaker.

The resignation of the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and appointment of a new one took place Immediately after the lawmakers passed the supplementary budget at around 7pm today.

The House has been adjourned to Monday, December the 21st, 2015.‎
