NUPENG to fight redundancies

TVCE (LAGOS) - The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has vowed to resist any attempt by oil and gas operators to sack its workers. Speaking in Lagos on Thursday, NUPENG Secretary-General, Joseph Ogbebor, said several thousands of workers have suffered unduly in the hands of operators in the downstream and upstream segments of the industry since the oil glut started last year, arguing that the issue would aggravate the problems in the sector, if not stopped. He said the body and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) would ensure that oil and gas operators follow due process before they lay off their workers, adding that this is only way to check redundancy in the sector. Guinness Nigeria acquires rights to USL’s brand in Nigeria

TVCE [LAGOS] - Guinness Nigeria Plc (“GN”) has agreed to acquire the rights to distribute McDowell’s’, a mainstream spirits brand of United Spirits Limited (USL) in Nigeria, says Guinness. The Corporate Relations Director of Guinness Nigeria, Mr. Sesan Sobowale in a release issued yesterday said USL is an Indian mainstream spirits business which is also a subsidiary of Diageo Plc. He said the transaction will become effective on February 1, 2016.Industry analysts believe the move by Guinness Nigeria is part of strategic efforts to deepen its leadership in the Nigerian market especially in other category other than beer.. It will be recalled that Guinness Nigeria Plc recently acquired the exclusive distribution rights to Diageo plc’s International Premium Spirits (IPS) brands in Nigeria. As part of the transaction, Guinness Nigeria will also take over various assets including the current inventory of Diageo Brands Nigeria Limited, the wholly-owned Diageo business which currently distributes and markets...

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to be released soon

Phone and Tech lovers, Samsung is at it again! Samsung is set to launch another phone also in the Galaxy class. The highly anticipated phone is going be the Samsung Galaxy S7 which is similar to the S6 The S6 was an upgrade from its predecessor, the S5 which featured a slim aluminum body, a “quad high definition” display (2,560 x 1,440), a fingerprint sensor and wireless charging technology. Troubled ex- NFL player Lawrence Phillips found dead in prison

Lawrence Phillips' sad tale came to a tragic end on Wednesday. The troubled former NFL running back was found dead in prison, according to a press release from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Phillips was 40. The death is being investigated as a suspected suicide. According to the press release, Phillips was found unresponsive at 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday when the staff at Kern Valley State Prison was conducting security checks. He was transported to an outside hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:27 a.m. Phillips had been serving 31 years for two separate incidents. In 2005 he twice choked his girlfriend. Later that year he attacked three teens with his car after a pickup football game. Egyptian MP resigns 48 hours after parliament’s first meeting

TVC NEWS : An Egyptian member of parliament resigned yesterday from parliament, describing it as “the worst parliament in the country's history” and a “circus”. Justifying his decision to resign, Kamal Ahmed told reporters that he "made the decision after the inaugural session experienced bad behaviour by some MPs who have turned the parliament into a circus.” Noha Kamal, Ahmed’s daughter, wrote on Facebook that her father resigned from the House of Representatives 48 hours after the first session "because he saw that there is no hope". Politicians and journalists criticised the events which took place during the new parliament’s inaugural session held on Monday which included yelling, chaos and quarrels between parliamentary blocs during the election of the two deputy speakers and heads of committees. More than 40 athletes to compete in 2016 Lagos City Marathon
