Army says kills 14 Boko Haram militants in Yobe

TVC E, NEWS - The Nigerian military says at least 14 Boko Haram terrorists have been killed in Tashan Fulani Village around Chorokusko in Babangida local government area, Yobe state. It also said it repelled an attack by the insurgents on Goniri, Gujba ocal government area of the state. According to the spokesman of the 27 Task Force Brigade in Damaturu, Lieutenant George Okupe, weapons including six AK 47 riffles, 36 hand-held grenades among other ammunition were recovered. Lieutenant Okupe also stated that no soldier lost his life in the attack except for one soldier who sustained an injury....

Property experts call on Lagos govt. to reduce charge on registering land, others

TVC E, BUSINESS - Property law experts have urged the Lagos State government to reduce the cost of registering land and other property documentation. The statement was made at a workshop on the Lagos State Land Registration Law 2015 organised by the Department of private and property Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG). A former federal commissioner of works, Femi Okunnu said fees charged at the land registry should be minimal so that people can afford to register their properties. According to the Dean of Faculty of Law, Unilag, Professor Akin Ibidapo Obe, the purpose of registration is not mainly to generate revenue but for management and regulatory purposes, while the essence of taxation is revenue generation....

Members of PDP unhappy over Metuh’s detention

TVC E, POLITICS - Members of Nigeria's main opposition party are not quite happy with the court order to remand its spokesman in Kuje prison. Oliiseh Metuh was arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on charges of criminal diversion of funds among other charges Metuh arrived the court with his face hidden by the grey beard grown since his detention. He's been at the EFCC custody for over a week without trial resulting in public protests from members of his party. His counsel's plea for his bail is set to be held on Tuesday next week but he will be cooling off at the Kuje Prison till then. Lagos State records first case of Lassa fever

TVCE (LAGOS) - Lagos State government has confirmed the outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state. The State Commissioner for Health, Jide Idris, who confirmed the outbreak, said in a media briefing televised live on TVC Nigeria, that the unfortunate incident was recorded at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Lagos. Lassa: Three dead, 200 under observation in Rivers state

TVCE (PORT HARCOURT) - Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr Theophilus Odagme, has confirmed that three persons have died, while more than 200 others are currently under observation, following the outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state. Odagme in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, said up to 50 people who had contacts with the first reported two cases could be out of observation because they had not shown symptoms of the disease. The commissioner said that the medical doctor, who died after contracting the disease, had been buried after consultations with the family. He said the doctor died at a hospital outside Port Harcourt and that contacts he had hours before his death were among those under observation. Taiwan elects first female President

The 59 year old Tsai leads the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) that wants independence from China. Federer to rest after battle with flu
