Obasanjo bags MA degree from NOUN, eyes PhD

TVCE - Former President Olusegun Obasanjo now has a master degree to his name. The two-term former president was on Saturday awarded a Master Degree in Christian Theology by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). Obasanjo was among the 10, 653 students who bagged degrees in various academic fields at the 5th convocation ceremony of the institution held in Abuja yesterday. Obasanjo with Matriculation no NOU 146058901 bagged a pass in Christian Theology with a GPA of 4.25 from the Abeokuta centre of the institution. The former president is expected to continue his PhD degree at the institution. Burkina PM confirms women amongst hotel assailants

TVCE (OUAGADOUGOU] - Burkina Faso's Prime Minister Paul Kaba Thieba has confirmed that two of the assailants that seized and attacked an hotel in the country's capital on Friday were women. The confirmation came shortly after President Roch Marc Christian Kabore convened an emergency meeting in Ouagadougou on Saturday (January 16) morning to discuss new security measures. "According to the information we have there were indeed women amongst the assailants but at this time I am unable to give you any further details on their identity nor on their exact number," Thieba said. He added that the government was calling for vigilance and solidarity. Al Qaeda fighters had on Friday seized a hotel in an assault that killed at least 28 people from at least 18 countries. FG slashes Lagos-Ibadan Expressway budget to N50bn

TVCE (ABUJA) - The Federal Government has slashed its budget for the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway from N66bn to N50bn in the 2016 Appropriation Bill, representing a drop of 24 per cent. The West Africa's busiest highway is currently under construction by two contractors, Julius Berger Plc and Reynolds Construction Company (Nigeria) Limited and are being owed several billions of naira for the job executed. But not more than N50bn has been raised by the government for the N167bn road project, which is expected to be completed next year. In the initial budget for 2016 presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammad Buhari, N66bn was voted for the highway among other road projects. A total of N244.123bn has been earmarked for the construction and provision of road facilities across the country in the reviewed 2016 Appropriation Bill. With this development, it is not certain if the completion deadline of 2017 will be feasible. ...

They have vacated the road following the unpaid debts and a recent court injunction obtained by Bi-Courtney Highway Services Limited, setting aside a concession agreement granted Motorway Assets Limited to finance the project and manage it. Not more than N50bn has been raised by the government for the N167bn road project, which is expected to be completed next year....
