Reps summons Nigeria Consular over killing of Nigerian in S’Africa

TVC E, NEWS - The House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Relations has summoned Nigeria Consular-General to South Africa, Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke to appear before it on Wednesday on the latest killing of a Nigerian in South Africa. Rep. Egyptian civilian shot dead in North Sinai

TVC E, NEWS - An Egyptian man was shot dead in the North Sinai town of Rafah on Sunday by unidentified gunmen. Sources said the 41-year-old was shot near Rafah Central Hospital. It would be recalled that Egypt's North Sinai has seen a rise in militant attacks since in 2013, which usually target the security forces. Hundreds of police and military troops have been killed in the attacks, while hundreds of Islamist militants have also been killed in military operations launched to quash the insurgency.    ...

Burkina Faso arrests 11 failed coup plotters

TVC E, NEWS - Burkina Faso Army said on Sunday it has arrested eleven former members of the elite Burkinabe presidential security unit which staged a brief and failed coup last year. According to senior military official Mahamadi Bonkoungou, all 11 individuals were former members of the RSP unit, which in September briefly seized power in a failed coup and took Burkina Faso's interim president hostage. Bonkoungou called for "collaboration" with the public, saying that after the attack security was stepped up and an investigation opened to find the perpetrators, and that police are still looking for 15 soldiers linked to the raid. The attack on an arms depot was staged by "a dozen ex-RSP members" at around 4 a.m. (0400 GMT) Friday with a security guard injured in the attack, Bonkoungou said. Plateau battles to rescue two Lassa fever victims

TVC E, NEWS - Medical team at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Plateau state,  are battling with two cases of Lassa Fever, the state government has confirmed. The government has also confirmed that the disease has claimed two lives in the state since 8th January when government discovered the first case of the outbreak in the state. Giving update on the spread of the disease in Jos on Sunday, the State Commissioner for health, Dr. Kuden Kamshak said the state government has successfully managed the spread of the disease in the state. TVC E, BUSINESS - The Federal Government is considering changes to Nigeria's tax regime as part of efforts to bolster the economy amid the financial crunch brought by falling oil prices. Indications that the government will increase Value Added Tax emerged on Saturday. Cultists burn woman to death in Lagos state

TVC E, NEWS - Suspected cultists have burnt a 65-year-old woman to death in the Bariga area of Lagos state. The suspected arsonists trapped Adejoke Adefuye in her room at 19, Oshinfolarin street and set it on fire, a report said. It was gathered that the attackers who struck at about 9am on Saturday, camped behind the deceased’s room to ensure she did not escape. The attack came after a similar incident in Mushin last Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said the hoodlums were on a reprisal mission and had stormed the area since Friday night to terrorise people. While other occupants of the building were said to have escaped with minor injuries, Adefuye who was inside one of the rooms, was burnt beyond recognition.
