President Buhari appoints new DG, Budget

TVC E, BUSINESS - President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Tijjani Mohammed Abdullahi  as the new Director-General (Budget). Abdullahi, replaces the current Director-General (Budget), Mr. Yahaya Gusau. A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Abdullahi is to work with the Minister of Budget and National Planning to efficiently deliver on the mandates of the Budget Office of the Federation. Abdullahi is a fellow of the Certified National Accountants of Nigeria, and a banker of repute with experience in managing public finance. Buhari has also approved the appointment of Mr. Ben Ifeanyi Akabueze as the Special Adviser on Planning to the Minister of Budget and National Planning. Mr Akabueze who is the immediate past Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos State, has worked in senior management positions in Citi Bank, Fidelity Bank, United Bank for Africa, NAL Merchant Bank, Sterling Bank and BIA Consulting Limited, among others.  He...

Iyanya to tour Canada in March

Naira to weaken further as dollar demand soars

The naira will weaken further at the parallel market this week after shedding nine per cent of its value last week, foreign exchange dealers and economic experts have said. Last week, the local currency fell from 310 to 338 as acute shortage of the greenback lingered. The CBN has left the official exchange rate unchanged at N197 to the dollar on its official interbank window. Forex dealers and experts expect the naira to fall further at the parallel market this week as demand for the greenback continues to soar.  “The situation has got to the point of hysteria now; everybody wants to hold dollars. So the demand is rising and piling up,” the Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, said. Buhari appoints Abike Dabiri Senior Special Assistant

[caption id="attachment_10443" align="alignnone" width="300"] Abike Dabiri[/caption] President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of a former member of the House of Representatives, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora. Ms. Dabiri-Erewa was chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Media and Publicity between 2003 and 2007 and later chaired the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs between 2007 and 2015. The new presidential aide was born in Jos, Plateau State and attended Maryland Private School, Maryland, Ikeja and St. Teresa’s College, Ibadan, for her primary and secondary education respectively. She obtained her first degree in English Language from the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the University of Lagos where she obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma, PGD, in Mass Communication. She also obtained a master’s degree in Mass Communication from the same university. Mrs.Abike-Erewa also studied at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University....

INEC ready for House of Assembly re-run – REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday announced that it would conduct re-run election in two state constituencies in Bayelsa on March 5, 2016. The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, MrAusten Okojie, disclosed this during a meeting with management staff of INEC’s office in the state, in Yenagoa. He said that the meeting was to arrange on how to make the exercise hitch free. Okojie said the two constituencies were Ekeremor III and Southern Ijaw IV. He, however, said that the election would not take place in Olodiama, Ward IV and polling units 20-30 in Foropa, Ward 14. Martins joins Shanghai Shenhua

Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins has joined Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua in a multi-million dollar deal,BBC Sport reports. The 31-year-old makes the switch from Seattle Sounders, where he scored 43 goals in 84 appearances for the Major League Soccer club he joined in March 2013. Martins was linked with a move back to the Premier League in the January window, but British agent Tony Harris along with the player’s attorney Soroosh Abdi brokered the deal taking the former Inter Milan striker to China instead. Dangote distributes rice seedlings to Jigawa farmers

The President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has inaugurated its 8,000-hectare Rice Out-growers’ Scheme in Hadejia, Jigawa State, with the distribution of rice seedlings to farmers. According to a statement by the group, the scheme, which is part of its partnership with government at all levels to reduce Nigeria’s food imports, has the potential to provide 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. It said the rice project being executed by the Dangote Rice Limited would be replicated in six other states of the federation. It said the project was the fallout of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Dangote and the Federal Government, on the one hand, and the Jigawa State Government on the other. The FCT Police Command spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Anjuguri Manzah, said the command received an intelligence report and swiftly moved to the venue of the event to stop the marriage from holding.
