Former UN Sec. Gen., Boutros Boutros-Ghali, dies at 93

The UN Security Council has announced the death of Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the former UN secretary general who died today, February 16, 2016 at the age of 93. He died at a Cairo hospital after being admitted with a broken pelvis. He took office in 1992 at a time of growing influence for the UN following its decisive role in the Gulf War, serving one 5-year term. Earlier today, the 15-member Security Council observed a minute’s silence after the announcement of Mr Boutros-Ghali’s death, which was made at the start of a session on Yemen’s humanitarian crisis. Ali Modu Sheriff to head PDP

The National Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party may have settled for Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the next chairman of the party. The former governor of Borno State and a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, were drafted into the race by the members of the party’s National Caucus in Abuja at their meeting which ended in the early hours of Tuesday in Abuja. Firm invests $400m in vessel fabrication, integration yard

The Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL) base and Samsung Heavy Industries have invested $400 million in a vessel fabrication and integration yard in Lagos, The Nation has learnt. Additional $200 million will also be injected in the yard in the next few months. The yard, it was gathered, has the capacity for Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) integration and conversion. The $600 million LADOL free zone within the Apapa Pilotage District is a world-class facility. Access to the place is restricted. It has extensive infrastructure and equipment layout, making it an ideal environment for vessel integration, offshore oil and gas mega-fabrication, pipe coating, engineering and agricultural processing centre....

Angelique Kidjo wins 3rd Grammy award

Nyanya residents recount armed robbery scare

TVC E, NEWS - February the 5th goes down in history as the day residents of New Nyanya in  Nasarawa State came out to defend their community in anticipation of an armed robbery attack. In a letter, armed robbers had threatened to attack the area, a situation which triggered fear among residents. Although the attack didn’t happen, the residents remain alert. Correspondent Sifon Essien reports that normalcy is gradually returning to Angwan Doka in New Nyanya- a suburb in the Karu Local Council Area of Nasarawa State- following an armed robbery threat. The so called Big Boys had threatened to attack residents of the community on February the 5th. The letter even specified how much money each resident was expected to have at home at the time the robbers stated they would come calling. Insurgency: FG urges Nigerians to support military

Senate orders suspension of new electricity tariff

TVC E, BUSINESS - The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, asked the ministry of power, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and the electricity distribution companies to immediately suspend the 45 percent increase in electricity tariff ‎This the senate says was prompted by the present economic situation of the country which has brought untold hardships on Nigerians. Recall that Civil society groups have protested on the first of February, across the country against the increase of electricity tariff.
