TVC wins Station of the Year at Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards

TVC E, NEWS - Your darling station, Television Continental, otherwise called TVC, has not only remained the station to watch, but has continued to be the station to beat. Only today, TVC added a lot more to its numerous awards by winning yet more awards. In the latest haul, news anchor, Azeezat Olaoluwa won the Best Female Broadcaster award while Godwin Nwachukwu won the Best Cameraman at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards. 92 Boko Haram members killed in Cameroon

Cameroon’s army killed 92 members of Boko Haram sect and freed 850 villagers in a joint operation with Nigerian forces, the government of the Central African nation said on Friday. The operation in the Nigerian village of Kumshe, close to the border with Cameroon, was conducted under the auspices of a multinational force fighting Boko Haram, a statement from Communications Minister, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, said. “Two Cameroonian soldiers were killed (during the operation) by an accidental mine explosion. Five other soldiers were wounded,” Reuters quoted Bakary as saying in the statement. He added that the army captured weapons and ammunition and found a centre for production of homemade mines. There was no immediate comment from Nigeria or independent confirmation of the operation or toll, Reuters added....

Court adjourns hearing on Falana suit against United Airlines, others

TVC E, POLITICS - A Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned hearing on a refiled suit by human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, against United Airlines, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The hearing which will proceed on March the 8th is challenging the alleged unlawful deportation and inhuman treatment of Jacob Ajomale by officials of the United States in 2010. At the sitting earlier today being presided by Justice Ibrahim Buba, the second respondent, Ministry of Internal Affairs was struck out while the Plaintiff joined Minister of Interior as a party to the suit. Ajomale claimed to have been carrying in his body a tracking device, in form of a micro chip, allegedly inserted into him, through his anus, by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement prior to his deportation. Farmers partner Dutch firm to boost fish production

The Farmers Development Union and a Dutch agricultural development company, Oxfam Novib, have partnered to boost the growth of fish farming in Nigeria, with the support of the Federal Government. At a forum organised by the farmers’ umbrella body in the country, the Controller of Programmes, FADU, Mr. Adebayo Olaniyan, said the Dutch firm had agreed to help raise fish production in Nigeria to a commercial level by providing training for farmers and bringing market for their products. While stressing that fish farming could create huge employment opportunities, Olaniyan advised the farmers to take advantage of export trade to raise their income and contribute to the growth of the economy. Ekiti traditional rulers deny anti Aluko plot

TVC E, -POLITICS - Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers has dissociated its members from an online publication entitled, How Ekiti Obas rebuffed Fayose plan on Anti Dr Tope Aluko plot. The Obas addressed journalists at their monthly meeting in Ado Ekiti, the state capital. TVC News Correspondent, Akin Ogunmola reports that the statutory meeting of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers was in session when its Chairman, the Ologotun of Ogotun Ekiti read a prepared speech to newsmen. The royal fathers said the publication that the State Governor lobbied them to issue a communique to condemn the former State Secretary of the People's Democratic Party, Dr Tope Aluko was false. It would be recalled that Dr Tope Aluko is the whistle blower who alleged that the 2014 Governorship Election in the state was massively rigged.
