Senate slashes cost of JAMB forms

The Nigerian Senate has urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to reduce the cost of its form from 5,000 Naira to 2,500 Naira. This it says is to cushion the effect of economic downturn on parents and intending applicants. Besides, the Senate resolved that JAMB results are now to have a three-year validity for admission into tertiary institutions. The resolutions are contained in the adopted recommendations of its committee on Tertiary Education which investigated complaints against the new JAMB policy on admissions....

Rights journalists demand IG’s sack over increased criminal activities

Reacting to the recent abduction of three teenagers in Lagos, the Rights Writers association decried the spate of kidnapping, killings and terror attacks in the country. Reps urge FCT Minister to halt planned closure of private schools

Nigeria's House of Representatives has urged the Federal Capital Territory Minister to stop planned move to close five hundred and fifty private private schools. The FCT Administration had disclosed its readiness to close the affected schools. Representative Albert Adeosun from Osun State brought the matter before the House. He said the closure of schools without panacea for replacement would expose the children to crime and abuse. Adeosun is also worried about the consequences of throwing many teachers and other staff into the unemployment market...

NJC sanctions Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia over alleged misconduct

TVC E, NEWS - The National Judicial Council has sanctioned Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court, Lagos for alleged misconduct and injustice. The NJC at its meeting held in Abuja said it was putting Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia on its “Watch-List” for the next four years. A statement by the Spokesperson of the council, Soji Oye said Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia would also not be considered for elevation to the Court of Appeal or any ad-hoc Judicial appointment till her retirement from the Bench. The decision of the council was sequel to a petition by one Victoria Ayeni, alleging misconduct and miscarriage of justice in a pre-election matter. She was also alleged to have adjourned the pre-election matter several times until the termination of the life span of the Ogun State House of Assembly. The decision of the Council on Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia takes immediate effect....

Nigeria’s first and only 24-hour pan-African news channel, Television Continental (TVC) has emerged the Station of the Year at the recently held sixth edition of the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards in Abuja. NNPC supplies 10.23m litres of fuel to Lagos

TVC E, BUSINESS - The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has increased its daily supply of Premium Motor Spirits, otherwise known as Petrol  to Lagos from 295 trucks (9.7 million litres) as at Monday to 310 trucks yesterday, which is 10.2 million litres. This, according to NNPC, is to of  stem the ongoing fuel scarcity in the state and may other parts of the country. The Executive Secretary of Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), Obafemi Olawore said marketers received the 310 trucks yesterday, adding that if the same quantity is received today, the long queues at filing stations will ease out by end of the week. Olawore stated that there are vessels laden with products that were imported by NNPC but the problem  is that the Corporation lacks storage and distribution facilities to distribute the products, which accounts for the current situation on ground. Lagos schoolgirls’ abductors demand #60m ransom

TVC E, NEWS - Kidnappers of three abducted female students of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu, Lagos state on Wednesday demanded the sum of 20 million naira each to secure their release.
