FG inaugurates committee on solid minerals development

TVC E, BUSINESS - The Federal Government has inaugurated a 17-man committee to develop a blueprint to guide the transformation of the solid minerals sector in the country. Given the dwindling fortunes of the nation as a result of falling oil prices, the Federal Government has hinged the diversification of the economy on the solid minerals and agricultural sectors. The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Kayode Fayemi says the committee will produce a 25-year action plan for the transformation of the solid minerals sector. Senate urges government support for local products

TVC E, BUSINESS - The Senate has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to initiate and implement the first option policy on purchase of locally manufactured goods for any government procurement. This, it says, is to encourage patronage of made in Nigeria products. The resolution is sequel to a motion on the need for patronage of made in Nigeria goods sponsored by Senator Enyinanya Abaribe. The Senate says Nigerian manufacturers will boost the economy and create jobs if a large chunk of the 2016 budget is spent on procuring local products....

Court fixes new date for Dokpesi’s trial

TVC E, NEWS - The trial of  erstwhile  Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc,  Raymond Dokpesi was stalled on Wednesday due to improper filing of additional prove of evidence. At the resumed hearing, defence counsel, Wole Olanipekun  notified the court of an additional prove of evidence filed by the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs which was served him in court. Olanipekun also  argued that apart from needing time to study it,   the documents were not formally presented before the court. He  said the document ought to come through a formal application. He therefore sought for an adjournment. But the prosecutor objected saying the documents were clear enough. After hearing from the counsels, Justice James Tsoho adjourned hearing to April the twenty eighth. Earlier, the attention of the court was drawn to the transfer of the case to another court but Justice Tsoho held that the file transfer was made in error. Buhari, Erdogan sign agreement to boost trade, security

TVC E, POLITICS - President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan says a stronger collaboration between his country and Nigeria in areas of Trade and security will improve the fortunes of both countries The President made this remark while paying an official visit to his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The visit comes just two days after President Buhari returned from his diplomatic shuttle to the Middle East. Erdogan who has been on a tour of West African states, believes Nigeria with its size is its most strategic partner in Africa. Rivers Governor Wike charges INEC on free and fair elections

TVCE , POLITICS - Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that legislative re-run elections in the state scheduled for March 19TH this year are free, fair and credible. He gave INEC this task during last Saturday's thanksgiving service in celebration of his Supreme Court victory held at the Liberation stadium in Port Harcourt. CNPP withdraws from Ondo State LG polls

TVC E, POLITICS - The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties( CNPP) Ondo State Chapter has withdrawn its participation in the forthcoming Local Government election in Ondo State. The withdrawal from the Local Government election became inevitable based on some abnormalities in the decision of the  State Government to conduct the Local Government election after almost 7 years. CNPP Chairman, Ayo Isijola in a statement issued in Akure said  it is highly suspicious and ill-timed for the Government to conduct a  free, fair and credible Local Government election in just nine months to the governorship election.
