Fuel scarcity bites harder in Lagos

TVC E, BUSINESS - Scarcity of petrol has continued across different parts of Lagos as queues of motorists persisted in few filling stations that were selling the product. At the Mobil filling station in Orile, Lagos, motorists lamented having waited endlessly to buy petrol. A welder, Samuel Johnson, said that most filling stations were not selling inside jerry cans, adding that this had kept him out of job in the last two weeks. Johnson appealed to government to compel attendants at filling stations to be selling to those with jerry cans if they could produce their identity cards. He said that the situation was further worsened because there was no electricity supply in the last two weeks at Orile where he works....

Fuel scarcity may linger till end of March – NUPENG

TVC E, BUSINESS - The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Friday said that the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country might linger till the end of March. In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria, Southwest Chairman of the union, Tokunbo Korodo, said that from all indications, loading of petrol at both NNPC depots and private depots were very slow. Korodo said that if there was no improvement in loading the product by next week, the situation might be worse. “The pace of loading of fuel at NNPC depots in Mosinmi and Ejigbo is very slow as most tankers drivers that wanted to load, left the depots with nothing.  “Even at private depots where they sell above the ex-depot price, the pace of loading is very slow. “Presently, we need massive loading of petrol nationwide to get over the present scarcity. “I am imploring the government to improve on supply of...

CCT: Saraki prevents commencement of trial

TVC E, POLITICS - The much anticipated case involving Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Code of Conduct Bureau at the Code of Conduct Tribunal was stalled Friday by a new motion he filed challenging the tribunal’s jurisdiction. Saraki was arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) last year on a 13-count charge of alleged false declaration of assets. After the Supreme Court’s decision on February 5 this year, dismissing Saraki’s appeal, the tribunal fixed March 10 for the commencement of trial. Saraki’s new lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN) later sought a shift in the date, prompting the tribunal to fix Friday for trial. New Motion  When parties arrived the tribunal Friday, prosecution lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) told the tribunal that his client was ready for the commencement of trial, and that his witnesses were in court.
