Siasia says home based players in Eagles’ camp unserious

TVC E, SPORTS - Nigeria head coach Samson Siasia says he is not impressed  with the home based players in camp after the team struggled to a barren draw against Nigerian national league side Katsina United in a test match played on Thursday. Siasia said he did not see any form of seriousness in the players and has urged them to raise their game. Meanwhile, Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai thinks the Eagles can edge Egypt to qualify for the 2017 Nations cup. Nigeria did not qualify for the 2015 Nations cup and currently trail Egypt by two points in Group G of the 2017 qualifying series....

Rio Olympic Games : D’tigers draw Argentina, Spain, Brazil

TVC E, SPORTS - Nigeria's senior basketball team D'tigers have been drawn in group B of the 2016 Olympic Games basketball competition. D'tigers will contend against Argentina, Spain and Brazil in the preliminary round of the Olympics. According to world basketball governing body, FIBA, six teams will be in each group, but only nine have qualified so far. The remaining three countries will go through a qualifying tournament scheduled to hold in June. In Group A, basketball power house - The United states will contend against Venezuela, China and Australia. The Nigerian basketball team appeared at the Olympic games for the first time in 2012....

Nigerian Army kills Boko Haram commander on most wanted list

TVC NEWS - The Nigerian Army has killed one of the 100 most wanted Boko Haram terrorists in the northeast of the country. Army Spokesman Col. Sani Usman, said  the Boko Haram commander was killed in an ambush by the troops of the 7 Multinational Joint Task Force Brigade, Baga, and 118 Task Force Battalion, along Daban Masara. Usman said Masara was used by the Boko Haram insurgents to convey logistics for their operation. He said the Boko Haram leader, listed as number 95 in the first list of the most wanted 100 terrorists released by the Nigerian Army, sustained injuries which led to his death later. Usman added that other members of the group escaped with gunshot  wounds. The Acting Army Spokesman said the troops also recovered arms and ammunition and some jerry cans containing fuel and motor cycles from the insurgents....

Building collapse : Court remands Lekki Gardens MD, contractor in prison

TVC E, NEWS - A Magistrate's court in Lagos has ordered that the Managing Director of Lekki Garden Homes, Richard Nyong and the contractor Taiwo Odofin involved in the construction of a building which collapsed earlier this week, be held in police custody until investigation into the building collapse is completed. The first defendant Odofin alongside 2nd defendant Nyong, arrived the courthouse  in handcuffs escorted by men of the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti. The matter was heard in Court 6 of the Ebute Metta Magistrate court by Magistrate Afolade Botoku. Both defendants were in a somber mood all through the hearing . In his submission, lead counsel Godwin Osuyi from the legal department of the state CID moved a motion exparte application for an order to remand the two defendants in custody pending the conclusion of police investigations, he cited Section 35 sub section 5 of the Nigerian constitution 1999 and section 4...

Fire destroys shops at Kaduna’s Kawo police barracks

Shops at the police barracks, Kawo, Kaduna state have been destoyed by fire. The fire was ignited by an explosion from a gas cylinder in one of the shops. More than 10 shops are said to be owned by the police  officers' wives association. Passersby tried to put out the fire as  they awaited the arrival of fire service personnel. No life was lost to the incident, but valuables costing a fortune were destroyed....

2 dead, 25 injured in Calabar CBN explosion

TVC E, NEWS - Two people are dead while 25 others sustained various injuries following an explosion at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Calabar. The fire which broke out at about 12 noon in the banking hall of the premises was caused by a gas explosion. As soon as the incident occurred, the CBN alert system was activated, the fire service was called in, and the inferno was immediately brought under control. Some of the injured are currently receiving treatment at hospitals in Calabar while four have been discharged....

Ibinabo Fiberesima faces five-year jail term for manslaughter

TVC E, NOLLYWOOD - An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has dismissed a suit filed by embattled President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima to challenge her five years prison sentence for the death of one Dr. Giwa Suraj. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, had in 2005 charged Fiberesima to an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of dangerous and reckless driving along the Lekki- Epe Expressway, Lagos which resulted in the death of Suraj. She was awarded a N100, 000 fine by the court, but the decision was tested at the High Court by the Lagos State Government. At the High Court, Justice Oluwayemi set aside the option of N100, 000 fine imposed and sentenced Fiberesima to five years imprisonment for dangerous and reckless driving. She held that the trial magistrate exercised judicial recklessness when he gave the convict an option of N100, 000 fine and this did...

Kano govt set to fly Kano Pillars for away games

Kano State government is considering flying players and officials of Kano Pillars for their away match in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League. The chairman Kano State Sports Commission, Ibrahim Galadima revealed this during his meeting with the players and technical committee of the club in his office in Kano The team’s delegation was in his office to congratulate him on his new appointment.
