Ogun workers suspend strike for two weeks

TVC E, NEWS - Workers in Ogun State Wednesday night announced the suspension of their indefinite strike‎ “for two weeks” for the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to, address their demands. The state chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress,  Akeem Ambali, who disclosed this to our Correspondent in Abeokuta, said all workers under the employ of the state should resume at their duty posts on Thursday. Ambali said the suspension of the industrial action became necessary following intervention from well-meaning personalities, including members of the state House of Assembly and top traditional rulers.  He said, “Yes, we have suspended the strike. Shocking: Lagos Lawyer slumps and dies in court

TVC E.  It was a dark Tuesday at the Igbosere Magistrate, a suburb of Lagos State as a lawyer suddenly slumped and died right inside the court house. The  lawyer simply identified as Chidi, allegedly slumped while asking for a change in the adjourned date. Chidi, had appeared late before the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. F. M. Dalley. On his arrival in court after the case had been adjourned till April 14, the lawyer reportedly apologised to the court for arriving late, explaining that he was held in traffic. According to The Punch, the lawyer’s clients were Okedairo Okedeji, 38, and Akolade Agbola, 28, who were arraigned on February 29 for allegedly stealing meat and snail worth N28,000 from Southern Sun Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos. Tragedy: Van crushes man, pregnant woman and 4 children

TVC E. A pregnant woman and her four children have been reportedly crushed to death by a Hilux pick-up  van along old Oleh-Ozoro Road, Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State. The woman, who sold electrical appliances, had boarded a motorcycle with the children after close of sales for the day, when the incident occurred, according to sources. A source, who sought anonymity, said the driver of the pick-up was going home with N200,000, being part payment of proceeds from the sale of his family’s piece of land, when he rammed into the victims. The source said deliberations on how the part payment of the land, sold for N400,000, should be shared had resulted in a dispute among members of the family, during which one of them snatched the money and drove off in the Hilux pick-up. Hurray, Naira drops against dollar on parallel market

TVC E.  The naira on Wednesday, March 16, dropped against the dollar on the parallel market as the dwindling fortunes of the Nigerian currency failed to improve.   At 11am on Wednesday, the Nigerian currency stood at about N325 against the American dollar on the parallel market. The bureau de change (BDC) operators told our correspondent that the exchange rate has dropped in the past 48 hours and, as they suggested a few days ago, is not likely to improve in the coming days or weeks.   One of the sources said: “My friend, this is the situation right now. Senate rejects gender equality bill

The Senate has rejected a gender equality bill presented before the house. Sen. Biodun Olujimi (APC-Ekiti), titled the Bill ‘’An Act to Incorporate and enforce certain provisions of the United Nations Convention of all forms of discrimination against women.’’ The tittle was inspired by the controversial abduction and forceful marriage of Ese Oruru and abuse of women in the country. Section 5 of the Bill, states “every person, body, institution, community, authority or private enterprise whether public organ or body, public institution, individuals, communities or authority and private enterprise in Nigeria shall all appropriate measures, including regulatory policy, fiscal and administrative measures, to ensure the full development and advancement of all persons, especially young women and girl children, for the purpose of guaranteeing to them the exercise and enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms on a basis of non-discrimination and equality of all persons.” A motion for consideration of the bill was raised...
