Saraki gets March 24 ruling date from CCT

March 24 has been fixed for ruling on a motion by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, seeking to quash the charges of false assets declaration preferred against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal The tribunal led by Justice Danladi Umar fixed the date after taking arguments for and against the motion. Senate President’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), in his argument said the tribunal lacked jurisdiction to entertain the charges against his client , on among other grounds, that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice lacked the powers to file charges before the tribunal....

Court remands alleged kidnappers of Ikorodu schoolgirls in custody

The six accused kidnappers, alleged to have kidnapped three girls of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary College in Ikorodu, Lagos, were on Friday remanded in Ikoyi Prisons by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Adelaja, who gave the order, said that the accused should be remanded in prison pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Adelaja then adjourned the case to April 25 for legal advice. The accused, Emmanuel Arigidi, 37; Gift Pius, 30; Fred Omoni, 32; Geofrey Owei, 28; Seun Akanji, 33; and Segun James, 29; are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, kidnap, armed with offensive weapons and robbery. A Counsel from the Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Lagos, Mr G.O. Osuyi, said the accused conspired with others at large on February 25, at Maya under bridge along Ikorodu-Imota Road, Ikorodu....

False Asset declaration: Saraki goes to CCT with 80 lawyers

TVC E, POLITICS - The Code of Conduct Tribunal has fixed March 24 for ruling on a motion by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, seeking to quash the charges of false assets declaration preferred against him. The Danladi Umar-led tribunal fixed the date for ruling after entertaining arguments for and against the motion. Saraki’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), argued that the tribunal lacked jurisdiction to entertain the charges, on among other grounds, that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice lacked the powers to file charges before the tribunal.  He also argued that the failure of the Code of Conduct Bureau to invite Saraki to confront him with the breaches in his assets declaration form was fatal to the validity of the charges. Nigerians open campaign at World Indoors

Nigeria’s athletes will on Friday (today) begin their battle for honours at the 2016 International Association of Athletics Federations World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon, USA. The competition, which began on Thursday with the preliminaries of the Pole Vault event, will end on Sunday. Orukpe Erayokan will be the first athlete to take the stage on Friday in the men’s 400m heats before Patience Okon-George runs in the women’s 400m heats. Egwero Oghoghene will also compete in the men’s 60m heats on Friday before Lindsay Lindley competes in the women’s 60m hurdles heats. The semi-finals and finals of the two events will come up later in the day (Saturday Nigerian time).
