Downpour wreaks havoc in Lagos, Ogun, Osun, others

Residents of Lagos and environs were welcomed by a torrent of rainfall from the long holidays as work resumed across the country yesterday. It was like a replay of the 13-hour non-stop downpour the state experienced two weeks back. The day started with pockets of drizzles at different parts of the state before finally opening the heavens to a never ending shower of experience. Perculiar to such downpours, homes and roads were flooded. From Ilasamaja to Ojuelegba, Mushin, Agege Motor Road, Iyana-Ipaja and Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, the roads were flooded. Many residents of elite areas in Victoria Island, Lekki and Ajah were forced to scoop water out of their homes. Many commuters were stranded due to the heavy traffic caused by the flood and not a few went home drenched. The Lagos-Abeokuta expressway was the worst hit, as several failed portions between Ile-Epo and Abule Egba bus-stops left road users stranded. However, in a statement, the Lagos State...

Ceferin new Uefa president vows to review Champions League deal

The new Uefa president, Aleksander Ceferin, an "unknown" Slovenian lawyer, has vowed his first priority will be to look again at the controversial recent deal to give more Champions League revenue to the continent’s biggest clubs. Faced with the recurrent threat of a breakaway, the Uefa executive committee recently agreed to hand Italy, England, Spain and Germany four guaranteed slots each in the Champions League and revamped the revenue split to favour those clubs that had previously been most successful. But Ceferin, the head of the Slovenian Football Association since 2011 who came from nowhere to win the backing of 42 of the 55 Uefa voting members, won the support of smaller federations by complaining they were not properly consulted.   [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="928"] Ceferin[/caption] “We were not informed properly, I still think so,” he said after overcoming Michael van Praag, his more experienced Dutch FA rival. “About everything else, we will have to...
