2018 World Cup: Hope for Super Eagles as Croatia humiliates Argentina
Croatia in a brutal 3-0 win against Argentina on Thursday, now tops Group D with 6 points.
Croatia’s victory tonight means that a Nigeria win over Iceland, and a draw or win against Argentina, will see the Super Eagles to the next round in the World Cup.
Croatia inflicted a brutal 3-0 World Cup defeat on Argentina which might reduce their morale to participate in the tournament.
Lionel Messi the star man for Argentina hasn’t had the best of game since the tournament started.
Messi had no answer after Argentina’s goalkeeping Chelsea’s Willy Caballero gave Croatia a 53rd-minute lead after a slight mistake which broke the deadlock. The goalkeeper attempted a lob over the head of Croatia’s Ante Rebic and didn’t do it so well. Rebic volleyed the ball home beautifully, and it was a 1-0 win.
Modric made it 2-0 in the 81st-minute, jinking round his marker and unleashing a beautiful curling shot.
Ivan Rakitic compounded Argentina’s misery, settling down to score the final goal just at the 90th minute of the game.
