Yahoo boys: What Davido, Tunde Ednut, Naira Marly, Oyemykke and others are saying

“Yahoo Yahoo” a popular name for internet fraud in Nigeria, has been in the mouth of many in recent times. There has been an online tussle between those involved in it, those that support it and those against in.

It would be recalled that singer Simi sparked controversy online when she stated in a live video that ‘Yahoo boys should quit listening to her music if they want, because she’s not ready to glorify fraud.’

Simi’s comment generated a lot of comments online that her husband, Adekunle Gold was dragged into the conversation. An online user accused Adekunle Gold of helping Yahoo boys with forgery. It didn’t end there as other celebrities had to weigh in on the issue.

While some supported internet fraud, leveraging on the fact that politicians steal money and there’s no hope for the common Nigerian youth, others believe that whatever is bad is bad and fraud shouldn’t be in anyway glorified.

Naira Marley And Simi

Issa Goal singer, Naira Marley weighed in on the Internet fraudsters (yahoo boys) and the illegality issue as he said “Yahoo Yahoo” is not a crime only if people have an ample understanding of slavery.

The United Kingdom based singer took to his Instagram page to air his opinion on the matter. He posits that if only people are fully aware of the level of the severe damage slavery has done to the African continents they would then realise “Yahoo Yahoo” is not a bad business to venture into.

He wrote; “If you know about slavery, you go know say yahoo no be crime.”

The Issa goal singer further claimed that Simi snubbed him and gave him a negative attitude at an event.

However, In a recent video Naira Marley urged Nigerians to pray for Yahoo boys because they’re the ones that makes money circulate to the common man.

Tunde Ednut and Naira Marley

Naira Marley fired back at social media influencer Tunde Ednut with accusation that he collects money from Yahoo boys.

This was after Tunde Ednut kicked against the singer’s opinion on Yahoo boys which implies they aren’t really criminals. According to him, what they do is justified by the slave trade that took away their forefathers.

If you know about slavery, you go know sey Yahoo no b crime.

In response, social media influencer Tunde Ednut advised him against making such comment:

Okay, Naira Marley, This is wrong!!! You should be passing such messages. Tunde’s comment attracted other comments, like that of Davido, Zlatan and other fans.

Oyemykke to Simi on Yahoo Boys: Keep same energy for politicians

Social media influencer and Instagram celebrity, Oyemykke has urged Simi to keep same energy she uses to condemn internet fraud to condemn corruption by politicians.

In his video, he argued that most of the Nigerian stars were made from the proceeds of fraud and so they are not in the best position to condemn fraudsters, rather they should face the politicians who are the real fraudsters.

He wrote:

“Let’s call a spade what it is, Fraud is bad & should be condemned. But not from a fellow fraud star & that’s my main concern. There’s no need to fight one side of corruption , Nigeria is bad & even 5 year olds are becoming & dreaming about Fraud. Let’s curb it together but it’s very important we start from the TOP .

DO NOT BE VOICELESS WHEN WE ARE FIGHTING POLITICIANS!! KEEP THESAME ENEGRY as you have for these Internet Thieves with the ones that book your shows, with the ones that give endorsements.
I say this because I see how Politicians are celebrated everyday when they are the bigger problem of our society. Fight All If We Must Fight & Fight From The Top .”
