Kenyan wins $50,000 Lagos Marathon top Prize

[caption id="attachment_9549" align="alignleft" width="300"] Lagos City Marathon 2016[/caption] TVC E, SPORTS - IAAF gold label marathoner, Kenya’s Abraham Kipton has won the $50,000 Lagos Marathon top prize, crossing the finish line in a time of 2hrs 16mins and 46secs to emerge as the overall winner of the maiden edition of the Access Bank sponsored Lagos City Marathon on Saturday. The first Nigerian to cross the finish line,Philip Usharubutu, who finished the marathon race in 2hrs 30mins, settled for the N1 million prize money. He finished in the seventh position overall. Kenya’s Hosea Kipkeboi came second with a time of 2:16:34 while Ethiopia’s Debebe Ethosa came in third with a time of 2:16:40. In the women category, Ethiopia’s Halima Kayo was the first woman to finish the race in 2:38:36 while Alice Timbul of Kenya came second with a time of 2:38:49 just as Aberash Fetase of Ethiopia returned 2:39:09 to place third. Lagos City Marathon 2016 achieves historic moment after 30 years

[caption id="attachment_9498" align="alignleft" width="300"] Male Winners[/caption] Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode in his closing speech, made a statement "this is a historic moment, it was held 30 years ago" The Marathon was a success and winners from each category were appreciated and honoured by the organisers. Abraham Kiptom won the male category at 2 hours, 16 mins from Kenya. While Halima Hussien won the Female category at 2 hours ,38 mins, 36 secs from Ethiopia. Gov. Ambode also stated that this marathon would set the pace for the rest of the world and this is just the beginning. This is certainly one to look out for in the future....
