Building Collapse: Ambode assures residents of safe Lagos

TVC E. Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has pledged his administration's commitment to free the state from incessant building collapse. The governor who took to his twitter handle to announce the sack of top officers in the state's building Control Agency said government will deal decisively with anyone frustrating the efforts of the government in ensuring a safe Lagos. ''In line with the Lekki building collapse some government officials have been relieved of their duties.  We've ordered the immediate sealing of the construction site and cessation of further construction. The responsibility of any government is to ensure safety of lives & property of its citizens and this government is determined not to fail in that duty,'' Ambode tweeted. Building collapse : Ambode fires GM, Building Control Agency, others

TVC E, NEWS - In the wake of last week's collapse of a massive housing unit under construction in Lekki area of Lagos, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has dismissed the General Manager of the state's Building Control Agency Engineer Adeigbe Olushola. The Governor also approved the sack of the Head of Inspection and Quality Control, the Zonal District Officer and Zonal Head of the local government where the incident occurred. Governor Ambode in a statement signed by the Head of Service, Olabowale Ademola, said the affected officers were dismissed having been indicted of negligence, which is an act of misconduct under the Public Service Rule. The disciplinary measure was the outcome of the recommendations of the Personnel Management Board to Governor Ambode. Building collapse: Police arrest MD, Lekki Gardens

TVC E, NEWS - Following the directive by the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, the state police command has arrested the Managing Director of Lekki Gardens, one Mr. Richard Nyong. The Governor had ordered for his arrest following the collapse of the company's five-storey building at the Ikate area of Lekki. Although details of his arrest was still sketchy as at press time.This came at the heels of Wednesday's arrest of the contractor of the building project, one Taiwo Odofin, for his role in the collapsed building. Before the MD's arrest, the police had earlier declared the 34-year-old wanted as he was said to have fled to evade arrest. Confirming the arrest, Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police, said the MD is presently in police custody and will soon be charged to court....

UPDATE : Death toll from Lekki building collapse climbs to 15

TVC NEWS: The death toll from the building collapse at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State has risen to fifteen as rescue operations by the National Emergency Management Agency, South West zone and  Lagos State Fire Service are still ongoing. Our correspondent learnt that there are still several others trapped in the building including a nursing mother. TVC E, NEWS - Five people have been killed after a 5-storey building caved in at Lekki Gardens, Estate Horizon in Lagos State.
