Building collapse : Ambode fires GM, Building Control Agency, others

TVC E, NEWS - In the wake of last week's collapse of a massive housing unit under construction in Lekki area of Lagos, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has dismissed the General Manager of the state's Building Control Agency Engineer Adeigbe Olushola. The Governor also approved the sack of the Head of Inspection and Quality Control, the Zonal District Officer and Zonal Head of the local government where the incident occurred. Governor Ambode in a statement signed by the Head of Service, Olabowale Ademola, said the affected officers were dismissed having been indicted of negligence, which is an act of misconduct under the Public Service Rule. Building collapse : Court remands Lekki Gardens MD, contractor in prison

TVC E, NEWS - A Magistrate's court in Lagos has ordered that the Managing Director of Lekki Garden Homes, Richard Nyong and the contractor Taiwo Odofin involved in the construction of a building which collapsed earlier this week, be held in police custody until investigation into the building collapse is completed. The first defendant Odofin alongside 2nd defendant Nyong, arrived the courthouse  in handcuffs escorted by men of the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti. The matter was heard in Court 6 of the Ebute Metta Magistrate court by Magistrate Afolade Botoku. Both defendants were in a somber mood all through the hearing . Building collapse: Police arrest MD, Lekki Gardens

TVC E, NEWS - Following the directive by the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, the state police command has arrested the Managing Director of Lekki Gardens, one Mr. Richard Nyong. The Governor had ordered for his arrest following the collapse of the company's five-storey building at the Ikate area of Lekki. Although details of his arrest was still sketchy as at press time.This came at the heels of Wednesday's arrest of the contractor of the building project, one Taiwo Odofin, for his role in the collapsed building. Before the MD's arrest, the police had earlier declared the 34-year-old wanted as he was said to have fled to evade arrest.
