Court sacks Ibinabo Fiberesima as AGN president

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered embattled actress Ibinabo Fiberesima to vacate her position as the president, Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN. Ibinabo is facing a 5 year prison term for accidentally killing Dr. Giwa Suraj in a car accident. The National Secretary of AGN, Femi Durojaiye, said Ibinabo will step down while Emeka Ike takes over as the new president. Durojaiye in a statement on Wednesday said: "The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, this morning 23/3/2016 at the application and argument of Counsel to Actors Guild of Nigeria, Barr. Peter Andor Oboyi, struck out Ibinabo’s and BOT suit challenging the nullification of her election to the Presidency of AGN and also challenging the legitimacy of the Presidency of Emeka Ike and his Exco. Ibinabo seeks bail on health grounds

TVC E - Embattled Nollywood actress and President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima who is currently in detention on charges of manslaughter, has sought bail citing health reasons. This is coming after her March 11 failed attempt to secure bail. The three-man panel, presided over by Justice Ndukwe-Anyanwu, said that the appellant failed to attach copies of the judgment that was delivered by the court which affirmed the five years jail sentence imposed on her. In a six paragraph affidavit of urgency deposed to by one Victor Eden, the deponent averred that a tumour was expelled from Ibinabo’s breast. The trial magistrate had earlier given the appellant an option of N100, 000 fine for the offence. This judgment was, however, overturned by the high court, which replaced the option of fine with a five-year jail term. Ibinabo Fiberesima faces five-year jail term for manslaughter

TVC E, NOLLYWOOD - An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has dismissed a suit filed by embattled President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima to challenge her five years prison sentence for the death of one Dr. Giwa Suraj. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, had in 2005 charged Fiberesima to an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of dangerous and reckless driving along the Lekki- Epe Expressway, Lagos which resulted in the death of Suraj. She was awarded a N100, 000 fine by the court, but the decision was tested at the High Court by the Lagos State Government.
