World Championship leader Nico Rosberg has begun discussions with Ferrari about a possible move to the Italian outfit, according to reports.
The Mercedes driver is out of contract at the end of the season, and while both the German team and their driver have spoken of a desire to extend Rosberg’s stay with the Silver Arrows, there are growing reports that Rosberg may replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari for the 2017 campaign.
Since making his return to Ferrari in 2014, Raikkonen has failed to achieve the desired results, and while he finished fourth in last season’s World Championship, he was some 128 points behind team-mate Sebastian Vettel who ended the campaign in third.
Last season it was Valtteri Bottas who was linked with a spot beside Vettel in the Ferrari garage, but it’s now Rosberg who is rumoured to be on his way to the Scuderia.

TVC E. Triple Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton completed a race distance before lunchtime on the first day of pre-season testing on Monday (February 22) and, ominously for rivals, said his new Mercedes felt like a winner.
"Well, it looks very much like last year's," the Briton said after unveiling the car at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya before testing began.
Mercedes won 16 of 19 races last year, taking both titles, and have triumphed in 32 of the last 38 grands prix.
"It is exciting to see the whole thing come together, it is a brand new car," Hamilton added. "Everything is new, very very few things have been carried over from last year's car so I am excited. I just want to get out," he said, looking at the circuit.
